UCP Parent Support & Advocacy Group
The UCP Parent Support and Advocacy Group is available to parents with children with special needs. The meetings are an opportunity to network, provide information and support for one another and to advocate for the needs of their children.  A UCP staff member facilitates the meetings and invites speakers to address a variety of topics requested by participants.

Meetings are held on Thursday evening once a month from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Location varies, so please RSVP if you are interested in attending an upcoming meeting.

Fall 2010 Meeting Schedule:
  • September 23rd
    Speaker:
    Diane Simon Smith,  MPH, MA, MFT (Licensed marriage and family counselor specializing in families who have children with special needs).
  • October 21st
    Speaker: Dina Kaplan, Esq.- Attorney/advocate specializing in special education issues
  • November 18th
    Speaker: Sharon Hensel Cohen, MSCCC Medical Neurological Speech and Language Pathologist, Special Ed. & regular K-12 Swallowing Expert.

UCP/K.E.N. Project (Kids with Exceptional Needs)
The UCP/K.E.N. Project is a non-profit parent training and advocacy organization providing workshops training programs and conferences for parents of children with any type of disability.  There are two meetings per month that are free and open to parents and professionals who work with children with special needs.  During these meetings, parents are provided the opportunity to present issues they are currently experiencing.  An advocate and an attorney respond with suggestions, referrals and ideas for solving the problems. Spanish language translation is available a week before the scheduled meeting.

Meetings are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at UCP's Administrative Office unless noted otherwise.
