Respitality

Caring for someone with special needs can be a stressful, 24/7 job.  This level of care puts strain on even the strongest families.  UCPLA's Respitality is a program designed to give over-worked parents a break so that they can get the rest they need to care for their child(ren) in the best way possible.

Respitality combines the words respite (time out from parenting responsibilities) and hospitality (hotel accommodations).  It is UCPLA's answer to that cry for a break that all parents need - especially the parents of children with disabilities.  Respitality is the opportunity for parents to spend the weekend at a local hotel, while their child(ren) are provided for in their own home.   Hotels in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties donate complimentary rooms for the weekend.

Many parents may choose to use their own sitter, but for parents who do not have one, UCPLA will make every effort to provide a qualified respite care worker to watch their child(ren).

Our sitters are all currently on staff in one of the UCPLA program sites or are former staff still in good standing.  UCPLA respite care providers are selected by their ability, integrity and experience.  They are available to care for child(ren) in their family home from Friday evening to Sunday noon.
